Hi, I’m Melanie—the human behind REAL K9 Training (Reward-based Ethically Aligned Learning). I specialize in service dogs and puppies, and for over a decade I’ve been helping dogs and their handlers grow together as a team-supporting both ends of the leash every step of the way.
My work with service dogs covers every stage of the journey. Whether you’re just starting your search for the right prospect or already have a candidate in mind, I offer support with puppy selection, early socialization, obedience, public access, and task training. I work with both new and experienced teams—though I do not provide guide dog, allergen alert, or autism-specific training. Every training plan I design is customized to fit each handler’s real-life needs.
In addition to service dogs and puppies, I work with dogs who have big emotions—fear, anxiety, reactivity, or just needing a little extra understanding. My approach is always positive, science-based, and tailored to each unique dog-and-human team.
I support clients through one-on-one coaching, day training, virtual sessions, and monthly subscriptions, depending on what best fits your goals and lifestyle. Over the years, I’ve worked with both civilians and veterans through nonprofit programs, and I’ve partnered with rescues and shelters to help dogs build brighter futures.
